From Grey to Beige in Double Bay Couldn't help but chuckle to myself watching news reports last night. It seems that now the greys can't even seem to form a consensus on the suitability of the venue that they have chosen for their meeting. Now the police say no no bad venue we don't like its defensibility. Meanwhile the trade minister who is supposed be organising the whole things says oh but hangon this was the police's preferred venue. Seems like they are having trouble making firm decisions all of a sudden now doesn't it? What a shame :) Yiuk.. For non-syndey people, double bay is one of hte most exclusive shopping, coffee and lunching areas for the extremely well heeled. Harbour views from all over the place, between the city adn the plush residential areas of the eastern suburbs. The response that we (the group of people whose phone numbers were on a flyer we handed out around double bay during a site reccy this week) have had has been hilarious! Numerous upper middle and upper upper class voices of dissent, concerned about our upsetting their ability to have a civilised and peaceful morning coffee and a browse a the boutiques. the chamber of commerce is concerned that the plethora of boutiques and expensive homewares stores will be an added incentive for more anti-capitalist protestors to converge on thier suburb (as though tjhe WTO meeting were not reason enough) The Biege army have mobilised and they're not happy. Even more beautiful is that the discontent of the Biege Army is directed NOT at the scumbag feral protestors they're afraid of, but at their MP's and police force who have failed to shelter them from such terribly uncouth outpourings of human emotion on their well manicured streets. The whole thing makes me laugh, we've already achieved enormous amounts of (unpaid) mainstream media attention, and we've still got a month left before the actions! you couldn't ask for a broader range of coverage, all the newspapaers have run an article a day for the second half of this week, most of them are even givoing a littel nod towards the issues at hand..... i've been spelling for some consolidation of feeling and and increase in public awareness of the actions adn the issues, and i'm sure others ahve been too, we're on the way folks! bb madwolf TEXTS T.R.I.P.S.
