Imagine if you will, an ordinary man, a gray. Let's call him Arthur Dent just to be silly... One day he wakes up wherever he lives in the world, and feels 'different'. He is thinking, thinking in ways he hasn't since he was a teenager and used to do radical things like grow his hair beyond the tops of the ears strictly enforced by his high school in '64 or smoke a real cigarette behind the corner shop. There is a vague feeling of meaning..but he hasn't worked out about what yet. As he sips his morning coffee, he begins to contemplate the nature of work and recreation in connection with his job. Is he doing anything worthwhile? Is he happy with his life? Is it all slipping away as he follows his daily routine? Suddenly he has an urdge to use his hard earned resources to do something FUN for a change. This odd mood carries through with him during the day and just after tea/coffee break, he starts thinking about both the neighbor he has been wanting to punch and the way he used to feel about his wife when they first got married. Odd combination of thoughts..Somehow he begins to see his neighbor as a real person that needs either understanding or exterminating (but he hasn't gone off the wall enough to break the law either way) and decides that he really does still love his wife and they should do something FUN together soon, like he was thinking this morning. He also decides what will be an effective way to deal with the neighbor and resolves to cut down the lelandi during the night when no one will see him, or be able to prove anything. Why the hell not after all? By lunchtime these combined influences have him making plans for changes he could make in his life if he had the courage, and something begins to stir in him. Just after the afternoon break, he has some sudden insights into the nature of the cycle of life and the sacrifices he has made to get his current position. He is also suddenly horny as hell. These distractions lead to thoughts of creative endeavors he had wanted to do someday when he was young and idealistic. The seeds of a real mid-life crisis are born. With these thoughts swirling in his awakening mind, he goes home and presents some ideas to his family who immediately wonder what's got into him, but hey, they've been thinking weird things today too. Their reactions lead to Arthur examining his own importance and seeing what he is to them, as well as connecting to them in a way that he never did before. Suddenly he understands (psychic) his own closest loved ones in a way that he never did before, and is able to communicate and discuss some really outrageous ideas for things to do to make their lives more interesting. By bedtime, it is beginning again. The wave has travelled to the other side of the globe and the work/play node is being reactivated. It will effect Arthur's dreams and the solidity of the day's new insights and plans for changes. Starting with setting the alarm for 2am to go cut down that lelandi...
